State of Nothingness

Have you ever felt desolate and empty?  The feeling that there is an absence of purpose in your life. There is no ambition or drive which compels  you to strive or work hard. You just live like a hollow being. Everyday becomes monotonous and rigid. You transform yourself into a smug rulebook. Once you wake up, your heart yearns to sleep again.

I call this state as ''the state of nothingness''. It is quite common after one encounters a failure or suffers from a tragedy. It takes time for a person to accept the reality so it is relatively difficult to succumb to the pain. Tragedy eliminates all emotions and replaces them with grief. The science behind grief is mind boggling. It is so intrinsic that a single event can decrease the amount of ''joy chemicals'' within your brain.

Everyone handles grief in their own unique way. Quite commonly, people relapse into damaging habits which are detrimental for their health. Some binge eat and gain excessive weight whilst some intentionally neglect dietary habits and lose weight. Some start smoking which weakens their respiratory system. All these habits are derived when people search for an ''escape'' or an ''antidote'' for their grief. They travel into another world where their tragedies are non existent which helps them to forget their pain. However, running away and neglecting your emotions will worsen your state.

Allow yourself to feel whatever you are feeling. Healing is a process which does not happen overnight. It takes time and patience. It is normal to feel despondent. Do not malign yourself for feeling sorrowful. Your failures or tragedies do not define you. Come back towards life.
