The Dua Zehra Case and Human Trafficking

Since the last three to four months, everyone has been sharing their two cents regarding the Dua Zehra case. I would comment that the case is quite perplexing to say the least, so forgive me if I comment something false or fabricated. However, this discussion is not about the details of this specific case but it is regarding the deep rooted issue of human trafficking and the consequences of it. Though the subject is a huge taboo in our society but it is something which can affect anyone particularly the marginalized and subjugated.

Dua Zehra is from a very simple and typical middle-class family who went missing after going downstairs to throw the garbage. Mayhem travelled across the country as Dua's parents appealed to everyone to find their daughter. At last, Dua was found in Lahore and married to a guy. Let me remind you that this girl is only 14 years old. Subsequently, our society did what it does best. You guessed it right, VICTIM BLAMING. Everyone gave their all when it came to maligning a minor's character. Videos surfaced of Dua admitting the fact that she willingly ran away from home and got married. Our society did not utilize their intellect. The body language, the demeanor and the expressions looked very distorted which made it evident that the girl is threatened and drugged. I would request everyone to keep in mind that this is a minor we are discussing. If you still perceive that she willingly ran away then you are nothing but a hate monger. SHE IS TRAFFICKED AND KIDNAPPED. The gang would have sold her to the racketeering industry if she did not receive any social media coverage.

Human Trafficking is a worldwide epidemic taking the lives of countless people. As I write this and you read it, someone is getting trafficked somewhere in the world. It is vital for us to commence these conversations as shunning them would mean we are indirectly elevating them. Please do NOT eat/drink something offered by a stranger especially if you are in public. Alert someone from your home if you are taking a cab. DO NOT VISIT EVENTS WHERE YOU DO NOT PERSONALLY KNOW ANYONE.

Something which is a mind-numbing habit of ours is VICTIM BLAMING. I repeat, no one ''asks for it''. No individual wishes to place their life in danger. Please be mindful of your words as they may drive someone to suicidal thoughts. A victim of these incidents is already traumatized and shaken to the core and these baseless judgements destruct their vision to fight back.

let me know in the comments how you can be an ally
