Happiness Vs Contentment
''Contentment prevents one from catching cold''
Ever heard of the phrase ''money cant buy happiness''?. When a phrase becomes ''trendy'', people just imbibe it without understanding its context. First, let us all define happiness first. Happiness is a momentary emotion which is basically a burst of joy. So technically, money CAN buy you happiness since happiness is nothing but a momentary emotion which is often short- lived.
Should we be seeking happiness?. Countless individuals exhaust themselves in search for eternal joy. They engross themselves in the pursuit of finding happiness and when they do not attain it, they become frustrated and despondent. Well I am here to burst your bubble. Personally, I perceive happiness to be occasional and circumstantial. It is definitely not something one should stress upon as it is not regular. Toxic positivity will drag you into an endless circle which will be mentally excruciating. It is not necessary for one to feel jolly and jubilant all the time. It is completely understandable to feel drowsy at times. Keep in mind that you are a mere human not a robot designed to be emotionless.
So what is the alternative for happiness? Should one be depressed all the time?. To answer your question, no. One should seek contentment which is an internal satisfaction and peace. Contentment is described by the belief that everything in your life is stable and concrete. There are no problems or obstacles which disturb you if you are content. Contentment is being satisfied with your fate and not being whiny about it. This leads me to my next point.
How do we cultivate contentment?. Contentment can be garnered by practicing gratitude. Being grateful for all your blessings will grant you internal peace. Complaining about all your shortcomings and obstacles will give you nothing but anxiety and disbelief. You will only be blessed with contentment if you are self aware. Self awareness comes along with being grateful for your blessings.
